I, Wing, have become swamped with the lovely amount of participation here at Critical Hit. It makes me really happy to see, but it's really hard to do it all by myself. So I'd like to get a few different people to do various work for me.
* Forum Game Updates : A simple position that requires updating Chocobo Race, Gumshoes Office, and Treasure Collect. Requirements include being active on the forum and being able to update the game threads when either the game has ended for the round (Chocobo Race), or constantly throughout the round (Gumshoes Office/Treasure Collect).
* Graphics Designer : This job will be sporadic in nature (meaning it's not a constant re, but the Graphics Designer will be needed whenever I need something like cards done or other miscellaneous things of that nature for the site. They need to have a good natural talent at CG art, and have access to a good image editing software like photoshop.
* Contest Harrier : This job came from me wanting to run more monthly contests to improve some of the activity on the site, without actually having to spend the necessary time going through entries myself ^^;;; I'm not lazy, I just don't have the time to do everything I want to do. The person who wants this job must have the ability to do write ups for the quest page and have the time to go over the results for contests. I'm hoping to do at least 2 a month - so if you don't have free time this is not the job for you (but again, it's not really that hard - a good basis of game knowledge is definitely helpful though).
If you have questions about them, or if you'd just like to know a little bit more feel free to ask about them here.
If you'd like to apply for something here, please give me the standards about yourself (like your member name, email, website, previous activity in this and other tcgs, former staffy type jobs, and overall qualifications). I'm going to judge off the work I've seen from people on the site as well as your overall qualifications and how I interact with you. I want the staff to be a tight-knit group of friends and coworkers, and that means that we all have to be able to get along.

Not sure what you mean by "activity" in the site. I play the games and I have donated some stuff. I also have enough time that I could update the forum when needed. Just tell me step by step how to do it and I'll get it down soon enough.

I'd like to apply for the Forum Game Updates position!
Some personal info : name: Barbar e-mail: barbar@planet.nl website: http://www.freewebs.com/grussbarbar/criticalhit.htm former staffy type jobs: none! The inactivity checks here are the first staff job I ever had. XD I am however a longtime crewmember of a Dutch Nintendo website, doing all kinds of things like posting news articles, writing columns and reviews and proofreading articles. overall qualifications: I check the forum multiple times a day, almost everyday (I'm often not online on Saturdays) and I know HTML... Is that enough? XD
I could also help do Graphics Design, but I'd then prefer to be more a kind of back-up staffer, because I probably don't have enough time to make decks regularly. My qualifications for that: well, my badge sets are pretty good representations of how I would make cards, I think. I'd focus on the upper body a bit more though for regular-sized cards, or otherwise the characters would probably end up too small. My image editing program is Paint Shop Pro 5. Pretty old, but even so it gets most jobs done pretty well. My natural talent at CG, well, I don't think I have much of it. But I do have a lot of patience and persistence to try and make graphics as good as possible! (That's also why I don't think I could make decks regularly; sometimes it takes me upward of an hour to make a single badge/card because I just keep tweaking it... XD) One thing that might be important: I don't know how to gradually change colors like in the card template border. I've been reading up on it and I think it has something to do with masks, but I still have to find out how to use them in PSP5

Graphic Design position please~
Emily emily@sound-siren.org http://sound-siren.org/tcg Former Staff type jobs: Puzzle set maker for Rock, Paper, Scissors (back in like, 2005? God I miss that game.), I'm going to be an inactivity checker for Odulation! once it comes back from hiatus Overall Qualifications: I own Photoshop, plus I use it for about 3 hours a day due to my Graphic/Web Design class at school. That's something I'm majoring, so I don't get sick of it.

uh. I think you've got enough staff applications. But hey, why not.
You know me, Wing! :3 I'm chanda, my e-mail is xchanda@gmail.com, my website is http://chanda.danseuse.org/, and I've been with Critical Hit since the. very. beginning. I've held numerous staff positions. I hold many now, and I also own TCG Addict & its awards and listings etc, as you know. I'm best at updating games (just 'cause I love having responsibilities! XD) and I guess I'm all right with graphics.
CARDS. I am so anal about cards. I want quality. I'll give you quality cards; I promise. Probably the only thing that'll give me trouble is the fact that you have your own version of Pixies. @__@ You know that I've been making Duck Soup!'s member cards. I promised Smam I would help her out, and I completed the entire 25+ backlog of member cards in one day. You know where to find the member cards. XD
ERR. CG Art? o_O I have no talent in that. I've never tried it. When it comes to image finding, though, I'll definitely get that for you. I love looking for images for game TCGs, just because there's such a wide variety of fantasy images at hand on the 'nets. I have experience in everything but this. XD
Thank you for considering me for a staff position. ^_^ I hope you make a good choice!
edit later: eh, why not. Let's see, staff history. XD I haven't really been hired for staff a lot until recently. ^_^; Let's see: my first job! I was the games updater for Lilio Candidior. ahh, Memories. I downloaded my first FTP program then. XD Unfortunately, I lost the internet at that time, so my post was abandoned. ;o; After that, I was the games updater at Alternate. :D I updated the games on time every Saturday before I quit (because I was working on Teo's and Alternate wasn't so fun for me anyway D:). I was the shop master at Chalky, the games updater for Triforce, I am a games updater at Adagielle, and at Duck Soup!, I work on the member cards, I update the donations thread with rewards & upload the donations to the site itself, as well as upload donated image sets to the server so Smam can download them herself later, and I also run the active doubles exchange. oh, And I ran my own TCG .. probably the busiest staff job I've ever held, where I made cards, graphics, forum posts edits & rules, page descriptions, pixels, messed with coding, etc. etc. XD
Besides TCGs, I ran the listing for Keeping Active (but didn't like the restrictions Emma put on the site, so quit) and then made my own, TCG Addict. ^_^ Also, about my availability: I'm online every day. Seriously. And I check Critical Hit everyday. <3 You can always e-mail me for graphic requests, or poke me on g-chat, and I'll update the forums in a snap. :D
I'm done. sleeeeeep. ;o;
edit later later: I don't think I have the time required for this job anymore .. I'm sorry. x__- Good luck to the other applicants!! :D
edit later later later: i have free time now with the start of second semester. :3

Not that I'd stand any chance against a Graphic/ Web Design major, of course.

lol That wasn't the intention of posting that. @__@ I just posted that 'cause she asked for "previous activity in this and other tcgs, former staffy type jobs," and I also wanted to ponder on what my past TCG positions were. I think I'm going to put that on my TCG post somewhere to help me remember in the case of future applications, haha. ^^;;
Barbar makes a good point. Practice on Photoshop for 3 hours a day? XD

Well, all of Adobe Suite, I guess. Though I highly doubt Wing needs someone knowledgeable in InDesign. XD

Just a post to tell you I'll be away for vacation for the next 3 weeks. I'd be more than willing to help out after I come back again, starting in April.
I'm wondering what the Contest Harrier job includes though; does it mean we have to think of new contests too? I'd probably be terrible at thinking up original and fun contests twice a month...
As for the Forum Game Updates position, I would propose to extend that to the shops too (maybe excluding the Card Shoppe). Filling orders is something that can be done by everybody, so if one of us can help you with that, you'll have more time to focus on the more creative parts, like the games, contests, essays, RP campaigns... Maybe one of us could take over Triple Triad updates too, since those should be straightforward enough to be handled by us...

Aaaand, I'm back! Still have to tie some loose ends together, catch up with some work that's been piling up when I was away, but nonetheless I'm able to start helping out whenever you'd like or need it, Wing!

Aaaaaand, another post to keep you updated, Wing. =P I've just yesterday been accepted into a temporary staffy type job at Trading Academy. I'm currently handling the Grades (token) exchange on their forum. ^_^

Barbar reporting again! XD My staff job at Trading Academy is permanent now, and I've also been accepted as staffer for Adagielle, where I'm going to help with giving Stamp Card rewards. ^_^
Edit: I'm also helping with Level Up rewards @ Adagielle now. XD

Hi, just a quick note to tell you I won't be checking the forum as often anymore, Wing... I'm assuming at this moment Critical Hit is either dead or in a very deep hibernation (in mid-summer even XD ) I really hope everything is allright with you! (It's strange not to see any updates, since you always seemed to put so much creative effort into the game.)
Anyway, if you ever need help restarting Critical Hit, I'll be available, so don't hesitate to ask! If you do restart, might I offer a few suggestions that could help you in running it?
1. Try to automate the game rewards if possible. I think your workload could be diminished if you change some games to not require you to give out prizes anymore (by e-mail or on the forum). It would require some more trust in the members, but I'd think in general TCG members can be trusted to not cheat.
Games that could work like this: Lottery: Remove the Pot and use Marfisa's Lottery script Tetra Match: List the rewards directly under the game with a randomiser, like Adagielle Chocobo Races: Make a separate randomiser page with the different prizes (maybe somewhat formatted like the Adagielle match one I linked to above?) and then link to that page at the end of the round. You'd then only have to update that page, with the correct colors above each prize
As for Fan-Tan, I would suggest to just remove that game. It would probably not be worth it to keep it, if you balance it against the amount of work you probably put in running it. You could use the time gained on other more creative and fun things like the Dungeon Crawl...
2. Move to a different forum. It's probably a pain to move everything again (I'll help!), but if Critical Hit gets a forum that allows e-mail warnings, it's more than worth it. I think e-mail warnings really help with regular as well as staff member participation, so I expect having them would help Critical Hit a lot.
3. Have lots of staff, at least for the forum. This kind of work is pretty easy, so it can be done by any TCG member. It the meantime, you could direct all your attention on the stuff that requires more technical knowledge, of PHP/FTP and such.
4. Completely restart our collections? It might be best if we all discarded our current collections and started from scratch to give all members, hopefully a lot of new ones, a more level playing field. I'm not sure what other higher leveled members might think of this (Lea's got quite a collection too!), but if you think it's best, I'm willing to give up my collection and start anew. In such a case, I would propose to give out bigger starterpacks to returning members though, and to allow them to get new rewards for their previous donations, just to reward them for the work they put in earlier. These rewards should of course be time-delayed to reflect the normal maximum monthly donation rewards, so it's not unbalancing.
And lastly, a slightly personal point : have a place (game or maybe special deck mastering reward) where you can earn a choice special card. I noticed that it's very difficult to master special decks, since you can only earn random special cards. If you can earn a choice special card somewhere (without buying it), maybe people would consider collecting special cards more, which should make the game even more fun.
Phew, it didn't turn into such a quick note after all... XD Oh, one thing more: I'll be moving my cards and equipment and stuff to my archive, so they won't be directly accessible anymore from my homepage. I am still very much interested in Critical Hit though, and I will be available, should you need help!
Wishing you the best, whatever you decide,
Barbar
